Dr. Fuller received his B.S. degree from The University of Michigan and his Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Arizona specializing in molecular endocrinology. Dr. Fuller was a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center for over 20 years until retiring in 2007 to devote his full-time efforts to developing topical dermatology products that could help improve common skin problems. His interest in identifying natural compounds that could effectively treat skin diseases was the result of watching his father battle psoriasis.
While watching his father go through various treatments, none of which provided long-term relief, Dr. Fuller developed a “drug screening” program in his lab that was similar to those used by pharmaceutical companies to discover new prescription dermatology drugs. However instead of developing and screening synthetic drugs, Dr. Fuller focused on screening natural compounds. The end result of this 4-year screening program was the discovery of a “family” of naturally occurring “super antioxidant” compounds that were potent inhibitors of various inflammatory mediators that cause skin problems. This technology is made available, under license, to pharmaceutical companies developing products to treat skin problems.
This same science-based approach to understanding skin biology, led to the creation of DermaMedics.
Dr. Fuller's research has led to the issuance of 21 U.S. Patents as well as 9 international patents, filed to protect their use in topical dermatology products, including RX, OTC and cosmetic skin care products. Dr. Fuller has conducted research and has consulted to companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Procter and Gamble, Unilever, Nu Skin, and Wella. His research has received support from the NIH, NSF, Procter and Gamble, and Wella, AG. Dr. Fuller has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles on pigmentation and inflammation, as well as articles & reviews on the development of topical products for regulating pigmentation and controlling inflammation. Dr. Fuller sits on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology and the journal, Cosmetics, and has been a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Society of Investigative Dermatology, the American Society for Cell Biology, the PanAmerican Society for Pigment Cell Research, and the Endocrine Society.
In addition, the rigorous approach to skin science that Dr. Fuller developed many years ago is used by DermaMedics to create highly beneficial skin care products that contain patented “super antioxidant” technology.
